“Running from the state capital of Madison south to the Illinois border, the 40-mile route could well become the most popular of Wisconsin's 32 rails-to-trails conversions. It will skirt farm fields and visit small towns and wind amid the scenic hills and valleys that remain largely untouched by the urban sprawl that has gobbled much of the state's rural countryside.” Silent Sports Magazine Mike Ivey
The Sugar River State Trail is a rails to trails conversion. The Sugar River State Trail was one of the first rails-to-trails conversions in Wisconsin. The scenic trail wends its way 23 miles (39 kilometers) through picturesque countryside. Four Green County communities are linked by the trail: New Glarus (Trail Headquarters)Monticello, Albany & Brodhead... A trail pass is necessary for biking and can be purchased at Trail Headquarters located in the historic train depot in New Glarus or a variety of locations in Brodhead, Albany, and Monticello. Bike rentals are also available at the depot in New Glarus. For more information, please call: 1-608-527-2334
